Unknown acts of kindness

I don't like to draw attention to myself, but I feel deeply about people's problems    I fear that public acts of charity makes me vulnerable to people who will take advantage    In my apartment building, we have an absentee landlord   The floors need sweeping   the light bulbs need to be brighter, the front door latch needs to be fixed,    I had a few days off, and I just wanted to stay home and sleep.  But one Monday  I noticed that everyone left the house about BAM.

learning what charity means

I learned what charity meant when I really needed it, and someone came forward          unasked, and went out of their way and spent money that they could not affort         to bring food for me and my ill husband.  Becuause of that, I go out of my way        to help others, no matter how hard it can me. In memory of that man

Memories

I find Mother's Day.hard I wonder how many people felt the same way.
I make a point among the older ladies i know to honor my Mother thru them
Saturday I will pick up some beautiful spring flowers and I can not afford roses
But I make a point to say enjoy the day...

recycling old clothing

i see so many people just dumping clothes out,    I got my local church to put an ad in their bulletin  I asked for any cloth, or clothing item ripped, stained or what ever'     bundle them and drop it off at the parish house Once a week I pick it up.   If it is servicable I will mend it, clean it, and donate it  if it is too far gone,  I rip it apart. I save the buttons, and hooks and eyes  sort everything by color and type, and then take the biggest pieces of cloth  wash and clean them and bundle them into quilting scraps by color and types of  fabric.

simple things

EVERY DAY WHEN I GO TO WORK I READ MY PAPER ON THE TRAIN.VERY RARELY DO I FIND ANYTHING THERE THAT I WANT TO SAVE, so i RECYCLETHERE IS A GENTLEMEN WHO IS THE  DOORMAN FOR THE NEXT BUILDING.  I ALWAYS GIVE HIM MYPAPERS.  HE READS THEM EVERY DAY THEN TAKES THEM HOME,  , HIS WIFE TAKES THE  USED PAPERS AND SHE MAKE THINGS OUT OF THEM, LIKE MATSAND RUGS AND ALL SORTS OF THINGS THAT NEED INSULATION. SHE WEAVES THEFOLDED NEWSPAPER STRIPS TOGETHER AND THEN COVERS IT WITH FABRIC.i WAS AMAZED WHEN HE SHOWED ME HER HANDIWORK.

A friend when you least expected it

My car was having problems,  it was stalling, and smoking and I was beside myself  It was now sitting in my driveway,  The landlady next door had driven up to see her tennant, and asked what was wrong,  I told her, thinking she could not understand. She laughed, rummaged in the back of her van and came out with rags and some solvent , andpopped the hood and went to work. In 20 minutes everything was workingdumbfounded I asked how she knew what to do.  She had worked with carsout of necsity and learned that the Maple Tree she had.

Be open to the possibility of charity

I work many hours, many times I feel that I am too tired to always have to be open    to helping people.  I don't have enough energy, that is until   I looked at one of  my    business  partners  and he works the same crazy hours, but he is always open to smile at a kid,    or reach into   his pocket and give a guy bus fare. I asked him  WHY  and he said  WHY N OT.  It gives me pleasure that I just might have eased some one's pain, or made a little kid feel good....

I travel around the world

SOME people I know who travel like I do have a negative opinion of people  unfortunately with that attitude, they are never disappointed.  When I travel  I imagine the most belligerent Customs Official, just trying to do his job and wanting to be a nice guy,  sometimes it works, sometime it doesn't.   I never evertry to let it bother me.  Of course I travel very clean I would never carry somethingthat would cause a problem.

appearances are deceiving

Everyone things I am a mean old man,  that is fine    I do better when I am left alone.     Actually there is not a toy on the market that I can not fix.    I collect toys. from garbage, from the salvation army etc, bazars you name it    I wash them fix them, and find ways that children who dont have much in   this world, can find them to play with.  Occassionally I really find somerare one,  those go to museums, or  they can be sold and the money I makegoes into getting repair supplies, paint and what ever is needed to keep thisgoing.

When I talk to my senior family members to record their stories

I learned a long time ago., that we need to let the elders of our family   not only be heard, but to have them retell their stories, in full detail.   I want to know about their brothers and sisters, and families as far  back as they can remember.  their information is precious. And we have them on this earth for only a short period of time.  To save them time and effort I give them tape recorders  then I transcribe them and give them a copywe actualy review it, and many times they remember more things as wel. Some of the simplest of people have the most intersting stories
